Nordstrom Introduces Music As Sales Rock
by Sarah Mahoney, Tuesday, Nov 21, 2006 8:33 AM ET
ADD NORDSTROM TO THE LIST of department stores posting excellent third-quarter results: Driven by a resurgence in its women's apparel, the company said yesterday that third-quarter profits jumped 26 percent to $135.7 million--while total sales rose 11 percent to $1.9 billion, above expectations.
The company said sales improved in every single merchandise category, with intimate apparel and accessories--especially sunglasses, watches, handbags, and UGG boots--performing especially well. For the fourth quarter, the company said it expects same-store sales growth in the low single digits.
The company also added music to its merchandise mix. In select stores and online, it will be the exclusive seller of the previously out-of-print Marvin Gaye "Anthology" compilation, with repackaged artwork and 47 tracks. Other exclusive selections include jazz ("An Introduction to Jamie Cullum") and "A Nordstrom Classic Holiday," a classic compilation with Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. (Last week, Target--which has long been in the music business--also announced an exclusive CD: Lil' Jams, a hip-hop and R&B CD performed by kids, for kids.)
Nordstrom said it would also market mainstream titles like The Killers, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake and Beck. [source]

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

I realized I haven't posted any Jamie Cullum tunes in a while. So, here's my peace offering, Well I Never live from Royal Albert Hall, reviews from some folks who saw Jamie perform that night, and who doesn't like photos? Here are some great ones from UrbanAtelier.
Saw Jamie last night at RAH, and have to say it was mindblowing! Last time i saw him (save the time we had a good old chat in a bar) was in Hammersmith and he's really got hold of something musically that so few musicians actually possess...it's called TALENT! You only have to watch TOTP or CD:UK to see that few people nowadays possess raw talent, and amazing ability to play instruments impecably and with energy that can move 10,000 people. Personally i'd like to see more young kids getting their teeth into "real" music. Although this may not be "classic" jazz, the same people that say this obviously miss that cutting edge rock music isn't still mashing chords, heavy drums and samey chord sequences! Times change, and you can either follow the music, or create your own paths. JC has created something good for music.
Charlie, London!I too went to see Jamie at RAH last night, truely memorable, tallent and energy, unfortunately all to rare these days. I will always remember last night as it marked my recent engagement. Jamie, thanks mate !!
Rob - CambridgeSaw him in the Royal Albert and he is an amaizing entertainer and brings the Album to life. its a grower but once you get it you'll be hooked. now waiting for the work he's done with Skateboard P, two of the most talented Musicians (in my opinion) joining together = Perfection. Keep it up Jamie your the most refreashing thing in Brittish music today.
